Decoding audio…

Quick answer

An audio trimmer removes unwanted audio from the beginning or end of a recording. Load the file, drag the left handle past the silence at the start and the right handle before the end you want to drop, preview, then export. Use the ±0.1 s buttons for precise trims.

How to use the Audio Trimmer

  1. Open the recordingVoice memo, Zoom audio, podcast episode — any common audio format works.
  2. Trim the startDrag the left handle to just before the first sound, or type the time.
  3. Trim the endDrag the right handle to where you want the clip to stop.
  4. Fine-tune and exportNudge by 0.1 s, add a short fade out, and export.

Tips for a clean trim

  • Leave 150–300 ms of room tone before speech so the clip doesn't sound clipped.
  • Use a 0.3–0.5 s fade out to avoid a click at the end.
  • Zoom the browser (Ctrl/Cmd +) for a wider waveform on long recordings.
  • Press [ and ] while playing to set start and end exactly where you hear them.

Trimming vs. cutting — what's the difference?

Trimming removes audio from the outer edges (start/end) and keeps one continuous piece. Cutting can also remove a section from the middle and join the rest — switch to “Remove selection” mode for that, or use our remove part of audio tool.

Frequently asked questions

Can I trim a voice memo from my iPhone?

Yes. Share the memo to Files, then open it here in Safari. Voice memos (.m4a) are fully supported.

How precise is the trimming?

Time fields accept hundredths of a second and the cut itself is sample-accurate (1/44,100 s for CD-quality audio).

Is MP3 Cutter really free?

Yes. Every feature — cutting, fading, volume, speed and MP3/WAV export — is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. The site is supported by unobtrusive ads.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Your audio is decoded and processed entirely inside your browser using the Web Audio API and an MP3 encoder that runs locally. The file never leaves your device, so it works even for private recordings.

Does it work on iPhone, Android and Chromebook?

Yes. MP3 Cutter runs in any modern browser — Safari on iPhone/iPad, Chrome on Android, Chrome OS, Windows, macOS and Linux. No app install is required.
